Manager, Pacific Collections

The Australian Museum (AM) operates within the NSW Department of Justice and was founded in 1827 and is the first museum in Australia. The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. In this role you will lead and oversee the development, maintenance and preservation of the Australian Museum’s Pacific Collection, engaging with communities across Australia and the Pacific, and developing strategies to build on culturally significant historical and contemporary collections to ensure objects are relevant and accurately represent communities in line with the Museum’s strategic plan.

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience working in Museums or Universities
  • Sound working knowledge of Pacific culture, with at least one specialisation in a specific area
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the Pacific Collection and how it contributes to culture, and the ability to contribute to debates on key Pacific issues
  • Links to the Pacific Community
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or relevant, equivalent professional experience
