Pacific opportunities in Horizon 2020

The 2016–2017 calls for Horizon 2020 have now been released, and they contain a large number of opportunities that will be of interest to Pacific researchers and innovators.

Below is a summary list of some of the key opportunities that we have identified. Click on the name of any call topic to go to the European Commission’s Research Participant Portal and the detailed description of the call topic (including scope of the call and the available budget).

We encourage interested Pacific researchers to examine these call topics to identify any relevant opportunities.

If you are interested in becoming involved in a proposal, we suggest the following:

  1. Contact your colleagues in Europe to see if they would be interested in having you onboard as a project partner,
  2. Contact your Pacific colleagues to see if you could collectively contribute to a proposal being put forward by your European colleagues, and
  3. Send an email to info@pacenet.eu.

Remember: Pacific OCTs are eligible for full participation in Horizon 2020, PICTs are also eligible for full participation (so long as there are enough European partners), whilst Australian and New Zealand partners will normally need to fund their own participation from domestic (or other) sources. The exceptions to these rules are the ERC grants and MSCA fellowships, which are for individuals as opposed to teams and institutions, and are also open to researchers from any country.

We also encourage all Pacific researchers interested in Horizon 2020, and other European funding sources, to register as expert evaluators. If you are selected to evaluate proposals to a call topic you will gain valuable insight to the realities of EU funding as well as meet other scientists and innovators in your field who have also been selected as evaluators.
