The Vanuatu Agricultural Research and Technical Centre (VARTC) in Santo is mandated to conduct scientific research and development activities in the fields of agriculture, livestock, forestry and fisheries with the ultimate purpose of using the information to enhance knowledge, development and to improve the livelihood of the citizens of Vanuatu. The Centre was formerly known as the IRHO since pre-independence days in 1980. The VARTC was restructured and established by the Vanuatu Agricultural Research and Technical Centre Act since 2003.
The VARTC Act provides for a Chief Executive Officer who has administrative oversight over the Centre’s day to day management. The Act also provides for the Board of Directors whose role is to ensure the proper and efficient performance of the Centre and determine the policy directions for the Centre on any matter.
The Board of Directors is seeking to recruit under its revised structure a suitable person for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will be responsible of the administrative management of the Centre and will work closely with its head of section managers, the Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Council. The CEO position requires a senior, mature, dedicated and committed person to handle the administrative and financial operations of the Centre.
Minimum Requirements
Interested applicants must possess the following requirements when applying:
- A degree or higher in Agricultural Sciences, business management or administration.
- Strong scientific background.
- Sound knowledge in accountancy and at least 5 years experience in business management.
- Be self-motivated and able to work without supervision and under pressure.
- Ability to lead a team and to establish networking.
- Ability to write reports.
- Have a good command of written and spoken English or French and Bislama (Bi-lingual in English and French would be an advantage).
- Ability to attract additional funding resources for the Centre.
The position is for a 3 years term and may be extended for an additional term depending on the performance of the candidate and the decision of the Board of VARTC. A 3-month probationary period is mandatory.
