The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Ecology (Leibniz-Zentrum für Marine Tropenökologie — ZMT) is to increase the scientific knowledge on tropical to subtropical coastal ecosystems and to provide the scientific basis for the protection and sustainable use of these ecosystems and their resources.
The ZMT is an inter- and transdisciplinary institute that achieves its mission through research, capacity building, and consulting since 1991. In close cooperation with partners in the tropics, the ZMT leads interdisciplinary research projects on the structure and functioning of tropical coastal social-ecological systems and their response to environmental and societal drivers.
